Day Trip Details

This is an exclusive opportunity to experience the backcountry of Denali National Park in a single day. A  flightseeing tour allows you to see the Park from above in a Cessna 206 single-engine aircraft (which seats up to 5 passengers). You’ll land in Kantishna and have several hours to enjoy lunch at Kantishna Roadhouse, explore the property, take a guided nature hike or try your hand at gold panning in Moose Creek. If weather permits, a shuttle will take you to see Wonder Lake on your way back to the Kantishna airstrip for your return flight.

$840 per person includes round trip sightseeing tour with our partner Denali Air, and the Kantishna Experience – lunch and your choice of guided activities, plus time to explore the historic Kantishna Gold Mining district in the Denali Park backcountry.

Our tour operates on Tuesday – Thursday, Saturday & Sunday.
(No tours available on Monday or Friday).

Common Questions

Denali Air operates from their own private airstrip located at 229.5 Parks Highway, about 10 minutes south of the Park entrance. Free parking is available for rental cars.

The flight time is 35 minutes; flight duration can vary based on weather conditions.

Yes, Denali Air offers courtesy shuttles to and from hotels, campgrounds, and landmarks. Please note that they can not typically offer shuttles from Airbnbs.  Please contact us with questions about pick-ups from a specific location.   Pick-up times range from 30-60 minutes prior to flight times, depending on location. Please specify that a shuttle is needed at the time of booking.

Your knowledgeable pilot will share information about the biology, geology, and history of the region with you as you travel deep into Denali National Park and Preserve. During the flight you will take in the Alaska Range, the rivers, the lakes, the tundra, and the overall vast expanse of wilderness offering an inspirational glimpse into untouched Alaskan nature. If the weather is clear, you might even have a chance to see Denali, the tallest mountain in North America and a treasured Alaskan landmark.

You can expect to be in Kantishna for approximately 5 hours. This should be enough time for lunch and at least one guided or self-guided activity.

The Kantishna Roadhouse property features several historic buildings, gardens, and beautiful views. You can take time to explore on your own, take a guided nature hike, pan for gold, or go fly-fishing. You can also simply take advantage of the opportunity to unplug and unwind! Expect to take lots of photos to capture the experience. 

We offer 3, 4, and 7 night all-inclusive packages. Much like this tour, they begin and end with a flightseeing tour – but offer much more time to experience the backcountry. An overnight stay must be planned in advance. Please visit to learn more.

We recommend being prepared for changes in weather – lightweight comfortable pants, comfortable closed toed shoes suitable for dirt or rocky terrain, short or long-sleeved shirt + a mid-weight sweater or jacket.

Because you are limited to a 10 pound day pack, we recommend packing light, and bringing only the essentials. Personal items that you expect to need during the day such as a camera, wallet, medication, and toiletries. We have rain jackets and pants, hiking poles, insect repellent, water bottles and binoculars available for use at the Roadhouse. Please note: bear spray is not allowed on the aircraft.  Bear spray is available in Kantishna. 

Lunch at the Roadhouse typically consists of fresh house-made sandwiches and soup, but this may change based upon availability of ingredients. We strive to provide meals made with locally sourced or homegrown ingredients whenever available.

Due to our remote location, we may not always be able to accommodate special dietary needs. Please let us know as far in advance as possible of any special dietary needs.

Our vans can accommodate folding wheelchairs. We do not use lifts or have ramps for the vans or the aircraft. Passengers must be able to ascend/descend 2-3 steps (with assistance). Our lodge and our restrooms are wheelchair-accessible.

Our gift shop offers hats, gloves, socks, clothing, insect repellent, books, field guides, Alaska Native art and postcards available for purchase; please do keep in mind the weight limit for the flight back to Denali Air. We are happy to ship items for you.

Your time with us is limited, but we will be happy to help you see and do as much as you can while in Kantishna!

There is no internet or cell phone service in Kantishna. Plan to unplug and truly experience the backcountry.

We have outlets available to charge cell phones or cameras. Please bring charging cords.

If the flight is canceled on your scheduled departure date, we will do our best to reschedule you to the next available date. We highly recommend trip insurance in case of unforeseen circumstances outside of your (or our) control.

If our flight operator, Denali Air cancels your flight due to weather or other circumstances beyond your control, we will do our best to rebook you for the next available date, or you will receive a full refund.

It’s possible that your trip could be cut short or extended due to weather. Our pilots closely monitor the weather and make adjustments for the safety of all. In the rare circumstance that you have to stay overnight in Kantishna, Kantishna Roadhouse will provide accommodations at no charge. Please note – if this rare occurrence does happen, we are not responsible for interruptions to your additional travel plans. We highly recommend trip insurance in case of unforeseen circumstances outside of your (or our) control.



A $210 deposit for the Kantishna Experience is due at the time of booking. The remaining balance of $630 is payable on the day of departure to Denali Air.

Baggage & Weight Policy

Passengers are allowed one small backpack weighing 10 lbs. or less.  Bear spray is not allowed on the aircraft.  Bear spray is available in Kantishna. Please see Denali Air’s website for more  information regarding HAZMAT policies and what is allowed in baggage.

Approximate passenger weights will be taken at the time of booking. All passengers and carry-on bags will be weighed at check-in at the Denali Air office; passengers will be weighed with everything they are bringing on the trip (coats, shoes, etc).

The MAXIMUM combined passenger weight is 1000 lbs.

If your group exceeds 1000 lbs, alternate options will be presented, including utilizing 2 aircraft when possible (which will require paying for that additional aircraft).

Travel Insurance

We highly recommend travel insurance, which can cover family and medical emergencies, as well as travel disruptions.  

Access to our remote location can be impacted by weather events and other forces beyond our control; and reservations cancelled for those reasons are subject to our stated cancellation policy. Any travel or accommodation costs associated with delays or unforeseen circumstances are the responsibility of our guests.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel your booking for any reason, you may do so 30 or more days in advance without penalty. If your cancellation is made within 30 days of the trip, the deposit of $210 is non refundable.  

If our flight operator, Denali Air cancels your flight due to weather or other circumstances beyond your control*, we will do our best to rebook you for the next available date, or you will receive a full refund.

*Tour operators maintain a minimum of four passengers for the tour to operate. Guests may purchase additional seats to ensure the tour. Tours are subject to cancellation/rescheduling based on these guidelines.
