Can I drive the Park road?

The 92 mile road into Denali Park has restricted access and private vehicles are allowed only as far as the Savage River check station at mile 15 on the Park road.

 

Are there bathrooms on the bus?

The buses that travel the Park road are not equipped with bathrooms. Rest stops are approximately every 90 minutes apart on the journey.

What will I see?

Full viewing of Mt. McKinley, weather permitting. The wilderness of Denali is home to a variety of birds and mammals, including a healthy population of black bears and grizzly bears. Herds of caribou roam the park. Dall sheep are often seen on mountainsides, and moose feed on the aquatic plants of the small lakes and swamps. Wolves inhabit the park, along with foxes, martens, lynx, and wolverines. Lakes, forests and high alpine tundra are also home to small species including hoary marmots, arctic ground squirrel, porcupine, snowshoe hares, beavers, and pikas. The park is also well know for its bird population. Most abundant are the Ptarmigan and the predatory golden eagle. There are many migratory species that reside in the park during late spring and summer.

What is the elevation?
